This course is suitable for registered adult nurses. It offers you pre-registration midwifery education together with the opportunity for academic development.
The term midwife means 'with woman'. Midwives are required to be the lead professional for women with an uncomplicated pregnancy and co-ordinator of care for all other childbearing women. This requires midwives to demonstrate compassion, autonomy, critical decision making skills, competence and professional accountability. Midwives work in partnership with women providing support, advice and care enabling women to make informed choices during pregnancy, birth and early motherhood. Midwives make a unique contribution to public health and are able to influence the health and wellbeing of women, children and families.
