Music psychology is an exciting subdiscipline of psychology, which combines a number of theoretical approaches and research methodologies to answer interesting and important questions on the relationship between music and human perception, cognition and emotion. Insights into the way in which we listen to, perform and compose music help us address important issues in the areas of brain function, language processing, memory, problem solving and creativity. At the same time, music fulfils important social functions, which have been subject of much research and debate.
